I have always believed that if you can find and retain the right staff then the success of our events are guaranteed. The feedback from our clients certainly supports this view.
We use both full time and professional freelance instructors to help us deliver high quality outdoor programmes with each member of staff being carefully selected for their specialities, experiences and qualifications. You can be confident of receiving enthusiastic, high quality instruction during all of our events.

Ieuan Starks. Director.
Ieuan - Company Director
Ieuan is a qualified secondary teacher and outdoor instructor. He is passionate about working with young people and believes that outdoor activities provide him with the best opportunity for developing potential. He is qualified to run a wide range of outdoor activities including kayaking, canoeing, climbing, archery, biking, and mountain walking.
Ieuan has worked in and with schools since 2001 and facilitated many outdoor education trips during this time. Most recently he worked in an Academy as a full time outdoor education teacher were he set up an inclusive outdoor education project.
Combining all his experiences, ieuan set up School Camp Ltd in 2010 since when, the company has grown from strength to strength.
Gemma – Technical and Events Director
Gemma is a highly experienced outdoor activities instructor who has worked for several activity centres since graduating with a degree in Outdoor Education and Sports Studies. Several years on, and reflecting her experience, she now lectures on this course during the winter.
Gemma is a well highly qualified kayak and canoe instructor. She is also qualified to run mountain walking, climbing, Bush craft and team building activities.
Over the last few years Gemma has run many residential activity camps and quickly establishes herself as teachers first port of call when they need something!
Alan – Office and Accounts Manager
Alan works from our main office in South Wales and is involved in the behind the scenes work. He is the main point of contact for customers and staff and it is his hard work that enables our smooth running events.
It’s more than likely that you will liaise with Alan if you have any queries or need support with your booking.
Stephen - Instructor & Store Person
Stephen is currently undertaking a degree course in Outdoor Activity Management and manages our Equipment Store around his studies.
Stephen is a developing activity instructor and supports camps and activity sessions through the summer months.
Well organised and approachable, he is popular with staff and students of all ages, as well as our dogs!
Elaine – Instructor & Event Manager
Elaine is an experienced and well respected outdoor instructor with a breath of experience in the UK and overseas. Her enthusiasm for everything outdoors is catching and makes her very popular with all our client groups. Elaine is passionate about developing individuals and come rain or shine will be found working with groups in the hills and mountains across the UK.
Elaine works as both an instructor as well as being one of our event managers facilitating our larger Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions and multi activity camps.
Zoe – Instructor & DofE Coordinator
Zoe went on her first expedition as a teacher accompanying students and was hooked on the outdoors from that point on! She has ten years’ experience working with young people in the outdoors and would prefer to be outside rather than in but still does supply work for local schools. She is a qualified archery instructor (aka Catniss) and can also turn her hand to sailing, morris dancing and synchronised swimming.
Zoe is one of our DofE coordinators but enjoys working on all our residential camps and watching the transformation as students discover how to work as a team and become more confident in their own abilities.
Wez & Floki
Wez and Floki belong to our directors and are much loved members of the team. Whil staff are forgotten over time, we are inundated with requests from teachers and students for the dogs to ‘work’ on their next camp.
Both boys enjoy the open air, mud and especially water and can be found at many of our events or at our company office.
Jamie – Instructor & DofE Coordinator
After a successful IT and management career, Jamie returned to his outdoor roots 7 years ago. He now has a very varied outdoor career and has a real passion for introducing young people to adventure, at all levels. Jamie is an experienced bike instructor, Mountain Leader and DofE assessor and is one of our Gold DofE coordinators. Jamie simply loves sport, adventure, the outdoors and challenge, along with colourful clothing and hats! Father of two amazing children with a very, very understanding partner.
Anna Gordon - Seasonal Instructor
Anna has been a member of the School Camp team for four years and this season takes on the role of Seasonal Instructor for the company. Her passion in the outdoors is for all things climbing and she is currently managing to find time to study for a Masters in Outdoor Education!
Holly Griffin - Instructor
Holly is a second year student studying Outdoor Education and has a background in competitive horse riding. These days she enjoys canoeing, mountain biking and stand-up paddleboarding as well as being in the mountains and sharing her passions with young people.
NB Holly and Anna aren’t really twins!
Nathan – Instructor
Nathan is a familiar face on our residential events and is qualified to run a wide range of activities from DofE to Climbing. his relaxed firm yet caring approach is appreciated by students and teacher alike.
He is a keen canoeist and can often be found with our groups on the river running sessions or onovernight canoe survival expeditions.
Lizzy Maskey - Instructor
Lizzy always has energy and enthusiasm to share and aims to inspire people with insights into the British Landscape, drawing on her interests in folklore, bushcraft, edible plants and her degree in environmental geography. While at University she became heavily involved with the UEA Fell and Mountaineering Club, and quickly realised that an office job really wasn’t the answer and the mountains and the people that you meet up them were calling.
Lizzy loves coaching and seeing that Eureka moment on peoples faces, she works hard to allowing learning from experience while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
Graeme A – Instructor
Several years ago, Graeme jumped ship from office life and now is a full time outdoor instructor and expedition leader, specialising in expeditions and D of E (trainer and assessor) in the UK and overseas. He works on many of our DofE and survival skills courses. Graeme is currently working towards his Winter ML qualification, and in his spare time, is a keen paraglider and climber.
Paul Taylor - Instructor
Following a demanding 26 year career in the Armed Forces, Paul decided to change his hobbies into a job! He is a full time expedition leader and wilderness medic, keeping his skills razor sharp by volunteering for an international disaster relief charity, deployed to places such as Nepal, Haiti and the USA. He is a popular and extremely experienced leader.
Ian Howells - Instructor
Ian is a freelance instructor who enjoys working with groups from a variety of social backgrounds. Prior to his career in the outdoors he worked with Youth Offending teams and the Prince’s Trust in the Manchester area.
Ian holds the Summer Mountain Leader award, working in the hills and mountains of the UK and overseas. He is passionate about all things outdoors!
Graeme Corlette – Instructor
Based in the North West, Graeme has been working as an outdoor instructor throughout the UK. Graeme is a Mountain leader working on our DofE programmes. Since leaving the corporate world 4 years ago Graeme has been focusing on outdoor education and learning outside the classroom through team building activities.
When not out in the hills, Graeme will be found riding his bike and spending time with his family.
Nigel Lewis - Instructor
When not overseas, Nigel enjoys walking and climbing in the mountains of the UK and sharing his experiences with young people
